A foraging we will go.

I know a few people who are keen foragers and we met up in local woods (Worton Woods) for a walk, forage and picnic on Monday. The weather was lovely and we had a very happy 3 hours there. I think all of us got nettled at some point but there was an abundance of dock leaves so all was well.

As we were leaving to go to the woods Isaac found a box and put it on his head. It was a great fit and so holes were added and he was a robot knight. He wore it in the car all the way to the woods and started the walk in it. Inevitably I ended up carrying it eventually but he made a pretty good effort considering how little he must have been able to see.

I was with people far more prepared than me and we had a Kelly Kettle and a stove for making food and nettle tea. Isaac loves fire. It was the BEST part of the day for him.

Making nettle pesto.

Fried corn bread and laver bread with wild herbs in yogurt.

A very big stick.

Nettle tea.

I was very pleased to see how well the kids all pitched in to help and look after the littlest ones. Isaac is not the most adventurous of eaters but was willing to give the tea and the pesto a try.

The woods were a great find, we'd not been before but we will go again. And they're great bear territory so I'm sure he'll get a romp there soon.

We Captured the Castle

We visited Castle Rising near Kings Lynn. It's a fantastic place to romp around.

Isaac happened to have a sword in the car (as you do) and Isabel, of course, had her princess crown. The centre of the castle is derelict as the floors collapsed many moons ago. There were enough rooms and passages to get a good feel of the place though and it brought out a bit of The Game of Thrones in me. I'd have quite liked my own sword. It certainly brings to mind how hard it would have been running up and down spiral staircases for the servants.

There was a school group visiting who were having an educational tour. They made a great audience while Isaac slew the foe that was his dad.

And just to make sure the castle was well and truly ours Isabel ran around the boundary (shedding layers as she went).

The Chalk Pit

On our anniversary we took a trip to the chalk pit up on Ringstead downs. It's been made into a nature reserve and is a really lovely spot. There was climbing and playing and a follow the leader as Isaac took us on an adventure.

It's oh so quiet. It's oh so still.

So the blog has been in hiatus for a while as the laptop was poorly (poor old thing is struggling with life). There's some catch up to do and hopefully a little more life in the old blog.

For our wedding anniversary each year we try to go away. In the early years of our marriage it was Paris and Amsterdam and lovely boutique hotels. This year we went to my mum's. Oh the glamour!

But hey there are beaches and the kids love being there. The dog loves it and it's a home from home.

On the way there we popped to the beach. The tide was out. It was rather muddy. The kids and the bear had a whale of a time.
